Fire-and-forget is a type of missile guidance which does not require further guidance after launch such as illumination of the target or wire guidance, and can hit its target without the launcher being in line-of-sight of the target. According the first analysis of Army Recognition military analyst, the Red Arrow 12 could be carried and fired by one soldier with a total weight of 22 kg, while the launch tube and the missile have a total weight of 17 kg. The launch tube is 1.25 m long. According to some information from a Russian blog, the missile uses an uncooled imaging infrared (IIR) seeker to provide all-weather day and night capability, but a day-only version based on a television imaging seeker is also available. The new Red Arrow has a maximum range of 4 jm in day version and 2 km for the IR variant. The Red Arrow can be fired from inside buildings or bunkers. This new Chinese-made anti-tank missile seems very similar to the U.S. Javelin missile and the new medium-range missile of MBDA, MMP. The missile is fitted with a tandem shaped-charge warhead able to penetrate 1,100 mm of armour protected by explosive reactive armour. |
