Pyongyang fired off four missiles with the KN-09 from the same place on Feb. 21, Seoul's Defense Ministry said Monday. A South Korean government source said they were probably either new KN-09 ground-to-ground missiles with a range of 160 km or new 300 mm or larger multiple rocket launchers with a guided system.A South Korean television station described the North Korean KN-09 as a ballistic missile with an approximate range of 100 to 120 km. The U.S. Air Force, though, described the system as a "coastal defense cruise missile"; ballistic missiles follow an arc-shaped flight path that in some cases exits the atmosphere, whereas cruise missiles maintain a lower, more consistent trajectory. The DPRK launched two short-range ballistic missiles Monday morning on its east coast, four days after firing off four short- range missiles, allegedly of Scud-type missiles. |
