The whole system is mounted on a local-made 4x4 combat vehicle that seems to be armoured to offer a protection against firing of small arms and shell splinters. The general layout of the vehicle is very similar to the Italian-made IVECO LMV. The PL02 high accuracy artillery electro-optical reconnaissance and command system vehicle is fitted with equipment to realize large-scale target searching by radar and provide fire-directing parameters and automatically convert to electro-optical system for identification and following with high precision. It can provide effective reconnaissance of ground target and direct the target to striking weapon. A ground surveillance radar with fire detection electro-optic equipment is mounted on a telescopic mast located on the top of the crew compartment to provide location and artillery fire direction capabilities. All the information can be transferred automatically to the artillery network. The radar is available in both vehicle-mounted mode and portable mode. The PL02 is flexible and can be widely used by military units for coastal defense, reconnaissance and artillery missions. The
PL02 shown at AirShow China 2014 was not armed, but two banks of two smoke
grenade dischargers are mounted on the top front side of the crew compartment.
They can be used to create a smoke screen and leave the observation position
in case of enemy threats. |

Four
launcher tubes are installed on the roof of the vehicle which can be used
to launch micro UAVs and provide real-time aerial imagery to the operators
in the vehicle. This micro UAVs could be used for target acquisition and/or
for precision strike. |
