Russian air defense forces will receive new S-300V4 air defense missile systems end of this year.
The Russian armed forces will receive new S-300V4 air defense missile system by the end of this year, according a statement from the Russian Ministry of Defense. The Almaz-Antey Concern S-300V4 is a modernized mobile air defense missile system derived from S-300V and S-300VM , NATO code SA-23 Gladiator.

Three batteries of S-300V4 will be transferred to military units over the next two weeks. In March 2012, Russian Ministry of Defense has signed contract with Almaz-Antey concerning the delivery of S-300V4 air defense systems, Lenta.ru reports.

The S-300V4 is able to track and destroy aerial threats and ballistic missile at a distance of 300 km maximum. This missile system is able to destroy the elements of long-range high-accuracy weapons in flight, as well as defend areal facilities against strikes by ballistic targets

In December 2013, Alexander Leononv, chief of the Russian air defense troops of Land Forces has announced the delivery of the new S-300V4.

The three-year contract for the supply of S-300V4, the Defense Ministry and Concern PVO "Almaz-Antey" was signed in 2013. The first three battalions of S-300V4 will be delivered and put into operation in the Southern Military District. According to some reports, the Russian Army has more than two thousands of S-300 missile systems in different variants.
