One scale model of the new 152mm self-propelled howitzer 2S35 was unveiled for the first time to the public. At the same time, a new wheeled self-propelled howitzer was unveiled based on a Kamaz 8x8 truck chassis equipped with the same turret as the 2S35 tracked howitzer. Some few months ago Russia has unveiled a twin-barreled self-propelled howitzer under the name of 2S35, but the project was cancelled. According to Russian military engineers, the new 2S35 can used high-explosive long-range precision-guided munition with a maximum range of 70 km and high level of accuracy. The new howitzer could be equipped with the new 2A88 cannon 152mm which is under development. To increase its self-protection, a remote weapon station armed with a 12.7mm machine is mounted on the top of the turret. Based on our initial analysis of this scale model, the 2S35 seems to use a new tracked chassis, three hatches are located at the front of the chassis. The standard self-propelled howitzer 2S19 of Russian army was based on the T-80 main battle tank. The new 2S35 could use the new universal combat platform "Armata". According to some Russian sources, the 2S35 can fire fully autonomously without any crew in the turret. |
