Russia plans to be equipped with new armoured Armata - Kurganets-25 and Boomerang from 2016.
The Russian army ground forces plan to renew 70% of its fleet with new armoured and main battle tanks for 2020, said the spokesman of the Russian Ministry of Defense, Major Kiril Kiselev. He added that Russia will acquire the new main battle tank Armata, the wheeled armoured Boomerang and the new infantry fighting vehicle Kurganets-25.

"From 2016, the Russian will start the acquisition of new generation of armoured infantry fighting vehicle and main battle tanks", said Kiril Kiselev.

The "Armata" is the latest generation of Russian-made main battle tank based on a Universal Combat Platform which will be used not only to produce heavy armoured but aslo to create a new generation of armoured infantry fighting vehicle.

The "Armata" platform is intended to be the basis for a main battle tank, a heavy infantry fighting vehicle, a combat engineering vehicle, an armoured recovery vehicle, a heavy armoured personnel carrier, a tank support combat vehicle and several types of self-propelled artillery under the same codename based on the same chassis.

According to internet information, the Kurganets-25 will be fitted with new modular armoured protection, which can be upgraded to response about different types of threats. The Kurganets-25 will be armed with one automatic cannon 2A42 30mm caliber and four launchers for anti-tank guided missile Kornet-EM.

The Boomerang is a new project of the Russian defense industry to create a modern wheeled armoured vehicle for the Russian army.
