"Tolyatti Special
Forces will receive ten new armored SPM-2 GAZ-233036 ‘Tigers’.
In accordance with the 2011-2020 state arms procurement program, the
vehicles will be delivered by the end of 2014," Col. Roschupkin
said.
Earlier this year, Col. Roschupkin reported that the CMD was to receive
24 "Tigers" by the end of 2014.
Last year, Deputy Defense Minister Yuri Borisov said Russian Armed Forces’
demand for “Tigers” had reached unprecedented highs following
the upgrades to "Tigers" that eliminate the previous advantages
of Iveco’s “Lynx” light motor vehicles.
The Tigr SPM-2 GAZ-233036 is is a high-mobility multipurpose armoured
vehicle designed and manufactured by the Russian Defense Company VPK,
a GAZ Group division, at the Arzamas machine-manufacturing plant. The
vehicle is especially designed to be used by Police forces to transport
personnel of as cargo vehicle.
The Tigr SPM-2 can also be used for counter-terrorist operations or
for law enforcement missions with the ability to protect the crew against
firing of small arms or mine blast explosion.
The Tigr SPM-2 is motorized with four-stroke liquid-cooled Diesel engine
which provides the vehicle to run at a maximum road speed of 125 km/h
with a maximum cruising range of 900 km.
The vehicle can be fitted with a small turret or a ring mount station
which can be armed with a 12.7mm machine or 40mm automatic grenade launcher.
