Russia to deploy Tor-M2U air defense systems in Eastern Military District by end of 2014
More than twenty Tor-M2U air defense systems will enter the service of Russia's Eastern Military District until the end of 2014, the district's spokesman Col. Alexander Gordeyev said Monday, October 6. "Before the end of this year, more than 20 of the advanced Tor-M2U systems will enter the service of the air defense units of motorized compounds in the Eastern Military District, stationed in Primorsky Krai," Gordeyev said.

Russian Tor-M2U short-range surface-to-air missile systems
     
A number of army air defense units of the Eastern Military District have already been rearmed with Tor missile systems.

Tor-M2U is an advanced short-range surface-to-air missile system, designed to defend key military and civilian facilities from attacks by aircraft, cruise and guided missiles, as well as unmanned aerial vehicles.

Tor-M2U can simultaneously detect more than 40 targets, track and attack four of them at once at a range of up to 23,000 feet and at altitudes of up to 19,700 feet.
