The
Russian strategic missile troops will place 16 Yars intercontinental ballistic
missile launchers into service this year, the troops’ commander
Sergey Karakayev said on Friday. The general said in October that the
troops had received nine launchers, six ballistic missiles for mobile
Yars systems and two for stationary systems in 2014 and expected to receive
three launchers and eight missiles more until the end of the year.

Three
regiments were planned to have Yars systems in service by the end of the
year. The missile RS-24 is a three-stage, solid propellant, MIRV-capable (Multiple Independently Targetable Reentry Vehicles) ICBM with a range of 10,500 km. The missile uses a guidance upgraded system of the inertial and Glonass system used in the RS-12M2 missile. The RS-24 missile can be armed with up to 10 warheads. The mobile system RS-24 Yars is mounted on a MZKT-79221 16x16 truck. |
