Army of Thailand could purchase WS-1B and WS-32 MLRS rocket launcher systems from China. | |||
The Royal Thai Army is considering the purchase of two new types of multiple
rocket launcher systems from China, according to the Canada-based Kanwa
Defense Weekly. According to Chinese source, Thailand is likely to import
WS-1B and WS-32 launchers from China, which will
be renamed the DTI-1 and the DTI-1G respectively. |

In
addition to the rocket systems, Thailand has also signed a contract with
China to connect its DTI-1G with the Beidou Navigation System, according
to the report. The satellite system can ensure an accuracy to within 50
meters of their target.
Thailand originally planned to assemble six DTI-1G multiple rocket launchers domestically under license from Beijing. Now, the Royal Thai Army has decided to introduce one DTI-1 directly from China and assemble another domestically. The number of DTI-1Gs on hand will drop to three. The WS-1B is a Chinese-made 302mm MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket System) designed and manufactured by China National Precision Machinery Corporation (CPMIEC), based in Beijing, China. The WS-1B is an upgraded version of the WS-1 which have a significant increase in range with 100 km (WS-1) and 180 km (WS-1B).The WS-32 is a Chinese-made 300mm MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket System) which integrates advanced technology of guidance and control system to increase accuracy of the rockets. The rockets launcher system is mounted at the rear of a 6x6 truck chassis with four tubes in two lines. The W-32 has a firing range from 60 to 150 km. |
