Vietnam would like to boost its defense partnership with Russia. | |||
Speaking
at a meeting with Yevgeny Lukyanov, deputy secretary of the Security Council
of the Russian Federation (SCRF), in Hanoi on Thursday, October 23, 2014,
Vietnamese Defense Minister Phung Quang Thanh said the cooperation between
the two countries would contribute to boosting Vietnam-Russia defense
partnership, reported Vietnam's state-run news agency VNA. |

The
Russian guest, for his part, expressed his hope that the cooperation between
SCRF and Vietnam's Ministry of Defense would further develop, benefiting
all-round cooperation.
On the same day, Lukyanov also met with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh and Deputy Minister of Public Security To Lam. During the meetings, the two sides agreed to boost security ties in order to promote national security and public safety, tackle transboundary and cyber crime and continue close coordination at regional and international forums, especially ASEAN-led mechanisms, such as East Asia Summit, Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), and the United Nations, for the sake of the two countries and the peace and development in the region and the world at large. |
