The mortar fire control system used with the VingPos MWS combines a customer-specific external fire control/ballistic computer fire control computer with an inertial navigation and automatic motorized pointing system, allowing crews to fire in under a minute. The ballistic computer and GPS system allow mortar crews to send and receive digital fire messages, to calculate ballistics and to navigate. Rheinmetall originally designed the VingPos MWS to be fitted with a semi-automatic 81mm mortar. There have also been design studies for mounting 120mm mortars to the Vingpos MWS. When mounted on a vehicle, the mortar can be fired from inside the fighting compartment. The VingPos MWS can also operate in dismounted mode. The system assures enhanced lethality, accuracy, responsiveness, and crew survivability, while reducing the logistics footprint. Rheinmetall also offers the VingPos for mortars deployed in dismounted operations. This portable Vingpos fits in a small backpack and can be used with any currently fielded mortar system. It substantially enhances the accuracy and thus the combat effectiveness of these weapons. The compact VingPos aiming device also fits into a small backpack. It makes it easier for the crew to determine their own position and the direction of fire, and to align the mortar accordingly. VingPos is compatible with all standard mortar systems. |
