There are three new stoves in the range:

i. Boilex “Hinged”stove: a hinged, flat-packed stove which is lightweight and ideal for personal cooking. Made of steel for multiple use, it is small in size, quick to assemble and easy to use in any environment. Designed to work with a soldier’s mug, this is the ideal “pocket-sized” stove for all soldiers.

ii. Boilex “Group” stove: A larger, more robust stove which is lightweight and ideal for group cooking. Made of mild steel for multiple uses, it is easy to use, quick to assemble and designed to work with a larger fuel block providing more power and heat to boil up to 5 litres of water, enough to sustain a unit of 8-10 soldiers.

iii. Boilex “All in One” stove: a unique, flat-packed design that folds out into a stove and cup cooking system. Made of lightweight aluminium, it is assembled by simply pulling its two corners to create an open receptacle and stand. Easily stored and carried, and weighing less than 60g, this system is perfect as an emergency mug/stove for survival situations or simply as a replacement for other heavier, more costly systems.

The Boilex Hinged and All in One stoves are designed to be used with Zip’s Military Cooking Fuel. This fuel is a solid, highly efficient, safer alternative to more traditional options such as hexamine, gas and alcohol gels. It is non-toxic and poses little threat to humans or animals. Zip Military Cooking Fuel burns cleanly, with a high calorific value and can be used both indoors and outdoors and in all climate conditions, ranging from desert to jungle to arctic. With a quick and easy to light ignition wrapper, the product is odourless, waterproof and convenient to carry. Powerful and long-burning, one individually-wrapped cube (weighing c25g) is sufficient to boil a 500ml cup of water in around 8 minutes in still air conditions. Additionally, Zip Military Cooking Fuel is classified as non-hazardous and can therefore be transported by air and dropped by parachute.

The Boilex Group stove is designed to work with a larger more powerful cooking fuel, supplied in a block of 6 pieces together weighing 680g. The fuel is an extension of the smaller wrapped cube, made from the same formulation, making it a safe, non toxic solid fuel block that can be broken off into individual pieces. This Zip Military Cooking Fuel is designed to heat larger amounts of water for drinking and cooking by burning up to 35-60 minutes in ambient weather conditions and boiling 5 litres of water in around 17-19 minutes.

Terry Coates, Managing Director of Standard Brands (UK) Ltd, owners of Zip and Boilex commented:

“After the launch of our award winning ZIP Military Cooking Fuel, we realised there was a real need for better stoves and cooking systems, with more efficient heat transfer from the fuel and quicker cooking times.

“I am delighted to now be launching our new Boilex stoves, which are more lightweight and perform better than more costly alternatives. Like our fuel, these new stoves have applications for all soldiers, as well as emergency and survival packs, disaster relief and humanitarian aid. This is another great achievement by the team at Standard Brands, of whom I am immensely proud.”
