At IDEB 2014, the Slovak Defense Company Konstrukta Defence presents the latest modernized version of the Dana 152mm wheeled self-propelled howitzer, called the Zuzana 2. This howitzer is based to the Zuzana 1 armed with a 155mm 45-caliber gun and automatic loader which enters in service with the Slovak Army in 1998. |

The 155 mm ZUZANA 2 is a wheeled self-propelled autonomous howitzer artillery system equipped with automatic loading of ammunition which is able to provide effective fire by both direct and indirect aiming. The artillery turret of the Zuzana 2 is mounted on a Tatra 8x8 truck chassis 815 VP 31 265 8 × 8.1R and weighs 16,400 kg in running configuration (without armour or payload). The vehicle can run at a maximum road speed of 80 km/h with a maximum cruising range of 600 km. The Zuzana 2 provides a ballistic protection of turrets against the direct fire and the fire at ± 30° angles meets the STANAG 4569 Level 2. The Zuzana 2 is essentially the earlier 152 mm wheeled self-propelled gun-howitzer Dana fitted with a new 155 mm 52 calibre ordnance capable of firing all Western types of 155 mm ammunition. The barrel is designed in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding concerning "Standardization of Elements of 155 mm Howitzers and Ammunitions". The Zuzana 2 can fire at a maximum range of 41.5 km when using ERFB-BB shells. The Zuzana 2 is equipped with electronic equipment, diagnostics and automation to control all operations during loading and firing. The weapon is equipped with the inertial navigation equipment and muzzle velocity radar. The weapon is equipped with the inertial navigation equipment, muzzle velocity radar and the on-board Fire Control System (FCS) enable to operate with digital maps. For direct fire the weapon is equipped with aiming system consisting of TV camera, thermal image camera and laser range-finder. The ammunition is stored in the conveyers which can carry up to 40 projectiles and 40 powder charges ready for firing. Beds in the conveyers are universal for all the projectiles and powder charges used in the service. It is possible to store new types of projectiles of the length up to 1,000 mm in the projectile conveyer and load them with the automatic loading mechanism. |
