Land 400 is Australian Army’s programme that will replace the Australian Light Armoured Vehicle (ASLAV) and M113 armoured personnel carriers (APC). The new vehicle that will come into service will have the technical capabilities that will complement the GDLS M1A1 Abrams main battle tank. In addition, the programme will equip the army with a specialist manoeuvre support vehicle (MSV). This one will carry out missions under the joint land combat doctrine. A total 450 IFVs are planned for acquisition, of which 312 for the IFV role, 16 as heavy weapon platforms, 26 as C2, 11 as engineering, 39 as combat engineering, 18 as repair and 14 as ambulance vehicles. Australian Army’s initial plans roughly place the ASLAV and M113AS4 withdrawal around 2021 and 2025, under Phase 2 and Phase 3 respectively. The Initial Operating Capability and the Final phase is expected around that period. |
