The systems will provide laser designation, range-finding and thermal imaging capabilities for day and night deployment of precision, laser-guided ordnance. The initial contract value was approximately $30 million with product delivery which began in mid-2014. System deliveries are expected to be complete by mid-2015.
"Our on-time delivery of these systems ordered for the Republic of Korea solidifies the confidence our customers have in L-3 ALST's ability to deliver a full-service solution for their weapon systems," said Stephen Sartwell, vice president and general manager of L-3 ALST. "Additionally, our Scarab system successfully completed a live-fire test event in South Korea last November, highlighting the system's precision targeting capability and its effectiveness in critical operations." L-3's Scarab is a compact, lightweight, man-portable and fully self-contained precision targeting system that quickly converts from backpack to full operational capability in just minutes. The Scarab system provides warfighters with the latest in targeting capability to identify and accurately designate objects for precision ordnance delivery during the day and at night, and in nearly all battlefield conditions. This battery-powered system incorporates the latest advances indiode-pumped laser technology and is capable of providing more than 60 minutes of total designation time – more than 100 typical missions – all from a single battery charge. |
