"The Ministry of Defence (MoD) Materiel Acquisition Commission approved the proposed German Boxer variant armed with a 30 mm cannon and Javelin anti-tank missile launchers. However, the final decision is to be made by the State Defence Council," said Lieutenant General Jonas Vytautas Zukas during a press conference in early July.

According to the website, the AFV model tested in Lithuania is unique. The Boxer is the only modular type vehicle which allows integrating different types of mission modules.

Lithuania has been testing an armored model capable of transporting troops and installed with remote controlled 30 milimeter cannon, reports lrytas.lt.

In 2014 Lithuania started questioning possible AFV producers.

According to local media, earlier this year the Lithuanian State Defense Council approved the purchase of AFV's for Lithuanian Army.

Lithuanian business news website vz.lt reported earlier this year, citing sources from the Defense Ministry, the country plans purchasing around 100 German infantry fighting vehicles for around 460 million euros (about 515 million U.S. dollars).

According to the sources from the Lithuanian Defense Ministry, authorities decided to accept a proposal from Krauss-Mafei Wegmann on purchasing 70-100 infantry fighting vehicles the Boxer.

Several companies were invited for negotiations, including: Elbit, FNSS, KMW/ARTEC, Lockheed Martin UK, Nexter, Patria, Otokar, Oto Melara/Iveco, General Dynamics Land Systems and General Dynamics European Land Systems.

The Boxer is a German-Dutch multirole armoured fighting vehicle designed to accomplish a number of operations through the use of installable mission modules. It is produced by the ARTEC GmbH (ARmoured vehicle TEChnology) industrial group, and the programme is being managed by OCCAR (Organisation for Joint Armament Cooperation). ARTEC GmbH is seated in Munich, its parent companies are Krauss-Maffei Wegmann and Rheinmetall on the German side, and Rheinmetall Nederland for the Netherlands.
