Created by Special Forces Command and placed under the High Patronage of the Minister for Defence, the Special Operations Forces Innovation Network Seminar (SOFINS) is an original concept designed to develop synergy in equipment between French Special Forces and the national fabric of industrialists, SMEs and the world of research.
 

Many international delegation from Special Forces units from all over world take part at the event to see latest technologies and innovation dedicated for Special Forces Operations.

The Commandement des Opérations Spéciales (Special Operations Command) is the organisation which coordinates the use of the French special forces of all military branches (Army, Navy, and Air Force). Similar to USSOCOM, COS was created on 24 June 1992, following the Gulf War. Its role is to direct and coordinate missions for special forces units; these are permanently under its direct command and immediately available for action.

French commandos freed a Dutch hostage from an al Qaeda-linked group in Mali on Monday, April 6, 2015, more than three years after he was taken captive while on holiday with his wife, French and Dutch officials said.

French forces killed two militants and captured two others in the operation, said Lieutenant Colonel Michel Sabatier, a spokesman for Barkhane, the French counter-insurgency operation in the region.
