"Prime Minister Narendra Modi is most likely to visit Moscow on December 24-25 following the Indian parliament’s winter session," an Indian Defense Ministry high-ranking official said.
"Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin are expected to sign several defense contracts worth more than one trillion rupees at the annual summit," he added. According to the high-ranking official, "India will pay the major part of the sum, which is 700 billion rupees (about $10.5 billion), for the delivery of S-400 (NATO reporting name: SA-21 Growler) air defense missile systems." India is also planning to sign a contract for the purchase of 48 Russian-made Mil Mi-17-V5 (Hip) troops carrying helicopters for the Indian Air Force and 50 multipurpose helicopters produced by Russia's Kamov Enterprise for the Indian Navy. According to a high-ranking source at the Indian Navy, talks will not be held to lease another Russian-made nuclear-powered submarine to India. "We do not study the option of leasing the Russian-made nuclear-powered submarine anymore," he said without specifying reasons for such a decision |
