Designed to partially replace BTR-80s which are currently used by naval infantry, the BT-3F tracked amphibious APC is developed on the basis of the BMP-3F (F stands for Marinized, Flotskaya) IFV intended for the Russian Navy`s Naval Infantry.

The development of the vehicle started in 2010 under the program "BMP-3-based APC design work". According to open sources, BT-3F features a crew of three and a passenger capacity of 14 mounted soldiers. The vehicle is supposed to replace the ageing MT-LB tracked armoured tractors.
