"The 201st base has taken delivery of around 100 examples of armor as part of the scheduled re-equipment, most of them being BTR-82A APCs and more than 10 T-72B1 tanks. The exact number has not been disclosed. The new vehicles feature enhanced firepower, improved protection and sophisticated communications gear," Roschupkin said.

The vehicles arrived in Tajikistan within 24 hours by rail, having covered over 6,000 km. "To meet the trains, helicopter, unmanned aircraft, logistic, combat engineer, medical and military police elements were used," he added.

The crews of the newly delivered vehicles had been trained in Russia, with extra training provided at the Sambuli Training Range in Tajikistan. "The same number of earlier-built vehicles has been taken [from the base] to Russia by the trains on their return leg," the colonel concluded.

The 201st Military Base is the largest Russian military installation abroad. It consists of the military posts in Dushanbe and Kurgan-Tyube.
