FAMOS (FAst MOrtar Support) is a fast mortar fire support system. Speed, reliability, and firepower arc key elements in the battlefield. An 81 mm FAMOS mortar platform located on the base of a four-wheel drive meets the main requirements of the battlefield. FAMOS system is made of extremely rigid lightweight materials.

Equipped with an 81mm HIRTENBERGER M8 mortar, FAMOS provides timely and accurate fire support. The highly reliable all-terrain vehicle has capability of carrying a full combat mortar set. Together with a MateQ ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle), it forms a tandem needed by a mortar team to perform its tasks and support the operations of its units.

The main advantage of the new FAMOS is to offer a light mortar which can be quickly deployed and increase the speed and readiness in the firing position. This mortar system is also equipped with a computerized firing system to provide more precision and accuracy.

The MateQ is an ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle) produced by the Lithuanian Company Ostara UAB designed to be used in the most hostile environment. The FAMOS is a two seats vehicle with the crew at the front and the mortar system at the rear.

A 4mm aluminium shield, polyurethane coating, an extra shock-resistant lamp, a winch, additional boxes, weapon holders, and IR headlights are just part of the assembly that is intended solely for supporting the units with mortar fire.

The M8 is 81mm mortar designed and manufactured by the Austrian Company Hirtenberger which can be operated under extremely difficult topographical conditions. It has a total weight of 40.2 kg and can fire at a maximum range of 6,669m.

The newly designed asymmetrical bipod carries the shock absorber, the barrel clamp and the elevating, traverse and cross leveling gear. The patented elevating gear together with the other adjusting gears constitute an optimal ergonomic solution.

The forged high-strength special steel barrel with smooth, close-tolerance bore can be provided with specially designed ribs for reinforcement and improved heat dissipation; this allows much higher firing stresses.

The Mortar Sight A06 is used for the indirect aiming of mortar in azimuth and elevation for the use with 80, 81 or 120 mm mortars. It consists of a mechanical aiming device with precise elevation and azimuth adjustment means by worm gear for angle setting and with an optical sighting telescope and is provided with a dovetail mounting system according to NATO standard.
