"Our contacts developed as scheduled in 2016. In some aspects there were additions to the existing plan. I mean our joint efforts in the fight against international terrorism. The rapidly changing global situation in the fight against international terrorism plays a major role in that," he said adding that military cooperation plans between the two countries "have been and are being fulfilled".
"We have drafted a plan for 2018. We shall expand everything which is called military cooperation. It includes staff negotiations and contacts at the level of the main commands. It also includes education. We shall expand it and will offer to you additional items of cooperation," Shoigu said. Since 2011, Azerbaijan has purchased a full range of military equipment from Russia, including S-300PMU2 air defense missile systems, 2S19 MSTA-S tracked self-propelled howitzers, 2S31 Vena self-propelled mortar carrier, BM-9A52 Smerch MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket System), BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles, Igla-S SA-24 MANPADS, T-90S main battle tanks, TOS-1A flamethrower, and SA-11 and SA-17 air defense missile systems. |
