BMC, Rheinmetall and Etika Strategi form a joint venture for armored vehicles development
Armoured Vehicles manufacturers from Turkey, Germany and Malaysia to establish partnership to expand their markets. BMC, Rheinmetall AG and the Malaysian company Etika Strategi announced their intention to form a Turkey-based joint venture with a view to cooperation in armored vehicles solutions. This joint venture will mainly focus on wheeled and tracked armored vehicles, the companies said.

The deal could mean Rheinmetall may partner with BMC in Turkey’s multibillion-dollar contract for the production of hundreds of next-generation main battle tanks the Altay (Photo Otokar)
     
“This will be a joining of forces aiming at the Turkish, Gulf, Malaysian and other Asian markets, with quite a long-term vision,” an industry source in Turkey said.

The source also said that the deal could mean Rheinmetall may partner with BMC in Turkey’s multibillion-dollar contract for the production of hundreds of next-generation main battle tanks the Altay.

BMC is one of the bidders for the serial production of 1,000 Altay tanks with an initial batch of 250. The Altay was developed by Otokar another Turkish company, a competitor of BMC. Otokar build four Altay prototypes under a $500 million program and they are now undergoing tests.
