New delivery of Russian-made Igla-S SA-24 man-portable air defense missile system for Brazil.
According the website Infodefensa, Brazil has take delivery of a new batch of Russian-made man portable air defense missile systems (MANPADS) 9K338 Igla-S. Brazil has signed a contract in 2014 with Rosoboronexport for the supplying of 26 9M342 missile launchers and 60 9P522 launching mechanism.

According TASS, the Igla-S would be integrated with M-60 Sabre ground/aerial surveillance radars developed by BRADAR Brazilian radioelectronic company. "The MANPADS and the radars will be included in the Operation Center of Anti-Air Artillery of Brazilian armed forces. The whole system has proven its effectiveness in climatic conditions of Latin American tropical forests", the source emphasized.

In 1994, Brazil has ordered a total of 112 Igla (SA-18) including 56 launchers. In 2010, Brazilian armed forces have taken delivery of 300 Igla-S (SA-24), followed by a new contract signed in 2014 for 60 Igla-S.
 

The SA-18 Grouse or Igla or 9K38 is a Russian made man-portable infrared homing surface-to-air missile defence system (SAM/MANPAD). This is a third-generation, man-portable, surface-to-air missile system and it is given the Russian industrial index number 9K38, for the complete system.

The SA-24 Grinch (Russian name Igla-S 9K338) is the latest generation of Russian portable air defense missile system. The SA-24 Grinch Igla-S is a further development of the Igla family systems (SA-18 and SA-16).

The Igla-S has an extended firing range of up to 6.0 km as compared with 5.2 km for IGLA system due to missile improved aerodynamic characteristics.
