China to receive two regiment sets of S-400 air defense missile systems by June 2019

Russia will deliver two regiment sets of S-400 Triumf (NATO reporting name: SA-21 Growler) air defense missile systems to China before the end of June 2019, a military and diplomatic source in Moscow told TASS on Thursday March 17, 2016.

"Under the contract signed in Moscow in September 2014, Russia is expected to deliver two regiment sets of S-400 Triumf air defense missile systems to China before the end of June 2019," the source said.
"Each regiment set comprises a command post and two battalions with four launchers each," the source added. "Russia will deliver the first regiment set in December 2017 - in January 2018. The second regiment set will arrive for China in May-June 2019," the source said. According to the source, the first regiment set’s ammunition load will include missiles of the S-300PMU-2 (SA-10 Grumble) air defense missile system. The second set’s ammunition load may comprise "missiles with improved characteristics." The source also said that Chinese crews and maintenance personnel would start undergoing training in Russia in the final quarter of 2017. The total value of the deal includes the training of the crews and maintenance personnel. According to media outlets, the deal is estimated at about $3 billion. |
