Defexpo 2016: UkrOboronProm discloses new Otaman modular armored chassis
At Defexpo 2016 in Goa, India, the Ukraine-based state corporation UkrOboronprom disclosed a new concept of modular armor chassis, dubbed Otaman. The Otaman armored chassis is the basis for creating a family of combat vehicles with a high level of protection, according to UkrOboronProm.

Otaman can provide additionnal armour solutions through the use of quickly mounted armor modules. With this new solution, army trucks like GAZ-66, ZIL-131, Ural, KRAZ and others may be reconfigured in several hours in armoured vehicles of different types.

The armor protection presented by the Ukrainian corporation consists of RHA - plate, layer of aramid fiber and outer destabilizing screens. With Otoman, UkrOboronProm can transform, in a few hours, a simple military truck in an armored personnel carrier capable of carrying up to 12 soldiers and the 2-strong crew. This concept would have a combat weight of 7,5 t.

The vehicle showcased by UkrOboronProm would be powered by a Hyundai D4DB engine (130 hp). Its maximum speed on highway reaches 95 km/h. According to the company a vehicle equipped with Otaman armor chassis would be 5400 mm long, 2300 mm width and 2680 mm high.

According to UkrOboronProm, the chassis is created by using quickly mounted armor modules with lower costs than their analogs. The Otaman vehicle concept could be armed with different weapons, such as BPU gun module, fitted with a NSVT 12.7 mm machine gun.

The armor modules are Level 2 STANAG-4569 certified, with optional Level 3 STANAG-4569. The Otaman concept can be used to create several functional modules, such as ambulance, command post, communication vehicle, etc.
