Eurosatory 2016: RUAG’s venomous… COBRA on display
RUAG presented at Eurosatory 2016 its COBRA mortar system. It was developed as a product that would set new standards in indirect fire systems. COBRA was designed to be easily integrated into any tracked or wheeled vehicle while requiring a reduced amount of training. One of its key features is the electric drive, which ensures accuracy, setup speed and Multiple Rounds Simultaneous Impact.

The first customer of the system is the Swiss Army, which recently selected it. In Swiss service, COBRA will be integrated on a GDELS-MOWAG 8x8 Piranha 3+ wheeled, armoured vehicle. Its operation will be carried out through a digital fire control system, with the use of an INS, a display and a joystick.

RUAG is showcasing the system to various international customers, in an effort to promote it, as the system will soon go into serial production for the Swiss Army.

COBRA features a semi-automatic loading mechanism, which brings the total weight to 1,350 kg. The system can fire at a range between 7,000 and 9,000 metres, with the shoot of the first round taking 60 seconds.
