Eurosatory 2016: Theon Sensors presented its new THERMON driver’s viewer | |||
Stelios Kanavakis Senior Defence Analyst Theon Sensors showcased a new product at Eurosatory 2016. The THERMON thermal driver’s viewer. The sensor can be configured to be integrated on various armoured vehicles and tanks. A similar sensor, which is however an image intensifier, is used as a backup system at the Norwegian Army’s BAE Systems CV90 IFVs. |

The IR optics and electronics can be mounted in external to the vehicle housings/ gimbals or in through-the- driver’s-hatch periscope type configurations. IR scenes are then viewed from an internal to the vehicle militarized display. Crucial to Theon’s thermal products is our own designed and developed IR engine (module). The IR module based on state of the art electronic components, such as latest FPGAs, fastest A/D converters etc. and advanced image processing routines, provides excellent IR images, small footprint and weight, minimum power consumption and an impressive NETD. Although the current version is based on 640x480 pixel 17 μm pitch IR detectors, the module’s open architecture and the in house expertise will allow THEON to incorporate other detectors with larger resolution and smaller pitches and from several detector manufacturers as they become available. |
