France will create a new National Guard to response to the new threats of terrorist attacks.

The French President François Hollande has confirmed Thursday, July 28, that a French National Guard would be created from the existing French army reserve forces to response to the new threats of terrorist attacks.

In a statement released by the Elysee Palace on Thursday, July 28, 2016, the French government announced a plan to form a new national guard.

The French president said parliamentary consultations on the formation of the force would take place in September "so that this force can be created as quickly as possible".

The Defense and Security Council will be officially notified of the plan in August and the national guard units will be formed in September, according to the statement.

François Hollande encouraged all young French people to join the operational reserve forces. "15,000 reserve forces would be available by the end of the month, and Bernard Cazeneuve, the French interior minister, announced that 2,500 people have already expressed interest.", he added.
