The new GIDS multi-missile launcher is fitted with four Baktar Shikan anti-tank guided missiles launchers. The system is connected to a firing control box with screen to perform all the firing operations. The Baktar Shikan is a second-generation anti-tank missile weapon system which pursues the principle of optical aiming, IR tracking, remotely controlled and wire transmitted guidance signals. The system can quickly be dis-assembled into the following four sub-units, encased missile, tripod, goniometer and control box each weighing not more than 25kg thus making the system man-portable. The Bakta Shikan is a variant of the Chinese-made HJ-8 which is manufactured under license in Pakistan since the late 1990s. According the manufacturer, the export version of the Bakta Shikan is able to destroy all currently known tank targets with a 90% hit and penetration probability at a distance of 3 km. It has been exported to Bangladesh and Malaysia. The missile of the Baktar Shikan anti-tank weapon system can used two types of warhead, the standard and the tandem warhead. Tandem warhead is effective against most of the explosive reactive and spaced armors presently being used. Addition of a smaller warhead ensures destruction of protective Explosive Reactive Armor (ERA) and thus effective penetration of armor of the tank by main warhead.
