The Protector is an evolution of the Mohafiz which is based on a Land Rover chassis. The Protector offers a higher level of protection using a light weight composite to provide ballistic protection against firing of small arms 7.62x51mm bullets. The layout of the Predator is similar to the Mohafiz with the engine at the front, driver and commander seats in the middle and troops compartment. The vehicle can carried a total of 8 military personnel. The commander and driver are seated at the front and provided with bulletproof windows to their front and a forward opening door with a bulletproof window in the upper part either side. These bulletproof windows are covered by wire mesh screens. The bulletproof windows provide the same level of protection as the armoured hull. Three bulletproof windows are provided in the sides and one at the rear of the troop compartment. A total of 7 firing ports are provided to allow rifles and other small arms to be used from within the vehicle. The Protector is motorized with 8 cylinder water cooled Diesel engine developing 200 Hp. at 3,400 rpm coupled to a manual transmission with 5 forward and 1 reverse speeds. A single-man manually operated turret is mounted at the front of the roof which can be armed with a 7.62mm machine gun. The turret is protected with armour plates on 360°. |
