"The first group of Iranian servicemen has already undergone training in Russia to learn to operate and provide maintenance for S-300 [NATO reporting name: SA-10 Grumble] air defense missile systems being delivered to the Iranian Armed Forces. The servicemen will return to Iran in the imminent future," he said.
"After that, another group of Iranian servicemen will go to Russia," he added. According to the defense minister, "all the Russian-made upgraded systems will be delivered [to Iran] in the first half of 2016." Russia will deliver two regiment sets of S-300PMU-2 air defense missile systems to Iran in accordance with the contract, which came into effect in November 2015. Each regiment set comprises a command post and two battalions with four launchers each. "We may also purchase Russian-made S-400 [SA-21 Growler] air defense missile systems, if it is necessary," the defense minister said, adding that Iran had developed its own Bavar-373 antiaircraft missile system. |
