Medvedev calls Russian defence industry to safeguard 2nd place in world arms exports
Russian Prime Minister, Dmitry Medvedev, has called the country’s defence industry officials to continue their efforts in order to safeguard the second position in world arms exports. Talking to the government commission for the defence industry he mentioned that the defence sector should modernize and remain innovative, in order to maintain its global position.

He said “We need modern weapons industry that would satisfy the demands of our own military through fulfilling the state order for weapons. Today we are re-equipping all our Army and Navy with the newest types of arms.”

Dmitry Rogozin, the Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the defence industry, also attended the meeting. He said that the government would allocate more than USD15 billion in the 2016-2020 period for the modernization of the industrial capabilities.

This funding would allow the Russian defence industries to replace defence products that have been produced by Ukraine and EU countries, while promoting R&D and research in strategic materials.
