Poly Defence from China presents for the first time to the public at AAD 2016, the Africa Aerospace & Defence exhibition, a new combat vehicle fitted with a laser system especially designed to destroy small UAVs called "Silent Hunter" or LASS Low-Altitude Laser Defending System.

The LASS Low-altitude Laser Defending System (LASS) takes advantages of high power laser beam to strike "low altitude, slow speed and small" UAVs and aerostats with features of high accuracy, low collateral damage, flexible application and low emission cost.
The LASS integrates functions of command & control, radar searching, optical/electronic warning and laser attacking together to realize purposes of target searching, capturing, locking/tracking and shooting down. The LASS can cope with the threats that the existing combat modes couldn't deal with. The LASS can be used for national low-altitude security and border control in heavily populated urban districts and major activities area. There are two forms of LASS system, vehicle-mounted form and fixed form The vehicle-mounted form can be integrated on a 4x4 or 6x6 wheeled or tracked vehicle. The fixed form can be divided into some small boxes which are lighter than 200kg for each one to facilitate to deploy on the top of buildings. Depending of laser power output which can be from 5kW to 30 kW, the laser system is able to destroy targets from a distance of 200m to 4,000m with an azimuth from 0° to 360°. The vehicle has a crew of two and and all control and firing operations are performed from inside the cab of the truck. |
