The minister announced the Russia`s aforementioned intention after meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Jhinaoui pointed out that Russian experience in fighting against terrorism was valuable and mentioned the Tunisia`s interest in using of such experience to stabilize the situation in the country.

In 2014, Russia pledged Tunisia to organise counter-terroristic training of Tunisian security forces and to provide the country with night vision systems and body armoured vests. As Tunisian media reported, Russian Armed Forces provided Algerian and Tunisian armies with satellite imagery to fight against terroristic militias and weapons smugglers.

According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute`s (SIPRI) arms transfers database, Russia did not deliver arms and military equipment to Tunisia in 1991-2015.
