The Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation drafted a contract for exporting the S-400 (NATO reporting name: SA-21 Growler) surface-to-air missile system to India and is waiting for its partners to respond, the service’s deputy chief, Vladimir Drozhzhov, told journalists on Tuesday.

"The federal service has drafted an intergovernmental agreement on the S-400’s delivery to India and submitted it to our partners. We are waiting for a reply now," he said at the DEFEXPO 2016 arms show. The Indian media reported late last year that the Indian Defense Acquisition Council had given the nod to the S-400’s buy and that the deal might be valued at 400 billion rupee ($6 billion). The S-400 Triumph is a cutting-edge Russian-made long-range surface-to-air missile system adopted for use in 2007. It is designed to deal with rotary-wing and fixed-wing aircraft, cruise and ballistic missiles (including medium-range ones) and ground-based targets as well. The S-400 features a range of 400 km. China is the foreign launch customer for the type. |
