"The entire set of the tactical ballistic missile system was delivered to missile units in May this year. A team of Machine-Building Design Bureau specialists and subcontractors spent several weeks at the practice range to check the vehicles and test cohesion of their crews," the press office said.
"The set comprising 51 items operates as a single whole. No malfunction has been registered. The Iskander-M tactical ballistic missile system is fully ready for combat use," the press office added. The official ceremony of delivering the Iskander-M tactical ballistic missile system to the Army took place in the town of Znamensk in the Astrakhan Region in south Russia. The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Defense Ministry and defense enterprises, including Machine-Building Design Bureau General Designer Valery Kashin. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said earlier that the Army would receive two brigade sets of the Iskander-M tactical ballistic missile system in 2016. The Iskander-M tactical ballistic missile system is designed to destroy missile and multiple rocket launch systems, long-range artillery guns, control posts, communications centers and aircraft at airfields at a distance of up to 500 kilometers (311 miles). |
