Russian company Rosoboronexport finishes Pantsir-S1 supplies to Iraq | |||
Russian company Rosoboronexport has finished the supplies of 24 Pantsir-S1 (NATO reporting name: SA-22 Greyhound) self-propelled anti-air gun-missile (SPAAGM) systems to Iraq, according to a Russian defense industry source.

"More than 20 Pantsir-S1 SPAAGMs have been supplied to Iraq", the source said.
Previously, several media reported, that Russia had signed the contract with Iraq to supply 30 Mi-28NE 'Night Hunter' (Havoc-B) combat helicopters and 24 Pantsir-S1 SPAAGMs, The agreement was valued at USD4.2 billion. Later, another contract to provide Iraq with six Mi-35M (Hind-E) combat helicopters and five Su-25 (Frogfoot) close air support (CAS) aircraft was signed. Military-technical cooperation between Russia and Iraq has good potential to be implemented, according to the head of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSMTC), Alexander Fomin. "We have an intention to develop our cooperation. It should gain new momentum", he said, commenting the results of the latest round of negotiations with Baghdad. He underlined the effectiveness of Russian equipment in the modern local conflicts abroad, including the air operation againt the Islamic State terroristic group (IS, forbidden in Russia). "The Soviet/Russian units of military equipment have proven their reliability and combat effectiveness", Fomin emphasized. |
