"VPK-39273 Volk-3 is being developed to meet Russian Armed Forces' requirements to modern multipurpose armoured chassis. At present, several prototypes of the vehicle have been produced by VPK. The company is planning to offer Volk-3 to Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) in the nearest future," he said.
According to open sources, Volk-3 is the 6x6 member of the Volk utility armoured vehicles family. It has a combat weight of 11.5 t, a payload of 4.5 t, a maximum road speed of 120 km/h and a range of 1,000 km. In basic configuration, Volk-3 is armoured at Level 2 (K) NATO STANAG 4569 (all-round protection against 7.62mm steel core armour-piercing bullets at 30 m distance). It can transport up to 18 mounted soldiers. Volk-3 is powered by YaMZ-5347-20 (240 h.p.) diesel engine. Russian TsNII Burevestnik scientific-research institute (a subsidiary of the Uralvagonzavod corporation) has developed the Volk-3-based self-propelled gun (SPG) using 2B16 Nona-B mortar. Such vehicle might replace 2S9 Nona-S SPGs within Russian Airborne Forces (VDV). |
