Forpost unmanned aerial vehicles produced by the Civil Aircraft-Manufacturing Enterprise underwent the first trials at the Staratel training range near Nizhny Tagil in the Urals in January 2012. The system comprises three unmanned aerial vehicles. Thus, the Russian Defense Ministry will receive 90 Forpost UAVs in the next five-ten years. It was reported earlier that space reconnaissance had registered the presence of a Forpost medium-class reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicle at Russia’s Khmeimim airbase in Syria. The Forpost unmanned aerial vehicle is produced by the Civil Aircraft-Manufacturing Enterprise under the license from Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd. The Russian enterprise has produced the Forpost unmanned aerial vehicle since 2012. The Forpost unmanned aerial vehicle has a cruising speed of 150 km/h (93 mph) and endurance of 18 hours. The unmanned aerial vehicle can take off both from rough terrain and with the use of special launch catapults. The baseline model of the Forpost unmanned aerial vehicle, i.e. Israel’s Searcher UAV, has been operational with the Israel Defense Forces since 1992. |
