Russian manufacturer NPO Transport in Nizhny Novgorod will supply the Russian Defense Ministry with 40 heated-cab snowmobiles Berkut TTM-1901 for operations in the Arctic, the regional authorities said, referring to the manufacturer. A snowmobile TTM-1901 Berkut has a two-man heated cab and a rear cargo platform

"A batch of 40 Berkut ski/tracked snowmobiles will have been delivered to the Russian Defense Ministry before the end of November. The snowmobiles have a car-type heated cab and are designed for use in the Arctic, given their ability to operate at ambient temperature of -50°C. This model is unique. It is the only vehicle of the kind featuring a heated cab and designed to work at such a low temperature," NPO Transport Director General Nikolai Veselov said. According to him, the model was developed specifically to the Defense Ministry’s standards.

"The regional authorities have helped us to develop and make the advanced vehicle. This year, we have been granted a subsidy as a compensation of part of our investment in the development of the production facilities - 3.3 million rubles [$53,000]," Veselov said.

The Berkut snowmobile has an enclosed two-seat composite cabin on a metal frame. The cab’s effective heating system maintains a temperature of +18°C even if it is -50°C outside. The vehicle drives on snow irrespective of its thickness at a speed of 35-40 km/h, carrying several troops. There is a combat station for a machine gunner who can lay down accurate fire on the enemy on the move.
