Russian MoD to get 20 more BTR-82A Armoured Personnel Carriers
Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) has signed the contract for procurement of an additional batch of BTR-82A armoured personnel carriers (APC), according to the MoD's press department.

Under the State Defense Order (Russian acronym: GOZ, Gosoboronzakaz) implementation program, the MoD and the Military-Industrial Company (Russian acronym: VPK, Voyenno-Promishlennaya Kompaniya, a subsidiary of the Basic Element Group) have signed the contract for an additional batch of BTR-82A armoured personnel carriers, according to the official notification obtained by TASS.

In accordance with the terms of the contract, the MoD will have received up to 20 BTR-82A APCs by end-2016.

BTR-82A is the latest variant of Russian-made BTR-80A APC featuring an increased armour protection over the previous model. The APC carries a sophisticated radio, the Trona-1 geospatial system with combined inertial/satellite navigation subsystems, and a day/night commander’s sighting system.The BTR-82A’s firepower has been increased owing to the newly introduced commonized electrically driven manned combat module with the two-axis gun stabilizer. The vehicle is armed with 30 mm 2A72 automatic gun and 7,62 mm PKT/PKTM machinegun.

According to an International Institute for Strategic Studies` (IISS) report, Russian Armed Forces have deployed 1,220 BTR-82A/AM armoured personnel carriers (as of March 2016).
