"The Russian special forces units of the Central Military District have received the first Platform-M UGVs, equipped with machineguns and anti-tank rocket launchers", Zarudnitsky said.
Platform-M is a universal robotic platform developed by NITI Progress on the Russian Ministry of Defense`s order. It was demonstrated for the first time during the Victory Day parade in Kaliningrad on May 9, 2015. "The robots are intended for intelligence, detection and elimination of moving and static targets, fire support and security", Zarudnitsky pointed out. The remotely controlled robot Platform-M unit is armed with grenade launchers and Kalashnikov rifles. It’s equipped with optical-electronic and radio reconnaissance locators, which enable the Russian robot to perform combat tasks during the night without unmasking itself. Platform-M is a universal platform that can be supplies with a variety of defensive chassis and weaponry. The Platfom-M is developed by the Progress Scientific Research Technological Institute of Izhevsk. Russia has allocated substantial resources in its 2016-2025 state armament program toward the development of robotic systems. By 2025, 30 percent of all military technology in the Russian Armed Forces is expected to consist of robotic hardware, according to Russia’s defense ministry. |
