On the booth of Denel, the South African Company LMT presents its new LM14 4x4 armoured vehicle personnel carrier at AAD 2016, the Africa Aerospace and Defence Exhibition. Denel Group has a majority stake in LMT Holdings.

LMT designs and manufactures armoured vehicles to meet the highest international standards in Protected Mobility Solutions. LMT's capability places it in a league of its own with a comprehensive range of vehicles that is highly specialized with superior protection and mobility.
The LM14 is designed by LMT to response to the needs for a cost effective solution aimed at the African market as well as South African Armed Forces. The development of the LM14 was started in Januray 2015, with design and development being concluded in nine months. The first prototype vehicle was finished in September 2015, the certification of the vehicle is on the way and will go into production as soon as a first order is received. The layout of the LM14 is very similar to modern wheeled combat vehicle with the engine at the front, the crew in the middle and the troops compartment at the rear using a monocoque design. The vehicle offers high level protection against ballistic man mine threats according to STANAG 4569. The LM14 is motorized with a Cummins 8.8 litre 6 cylinder in-line turbo diesel engine developing 400 hp coupled to a 6 speed full automatic transmission. The vehicle can run at a maximum road speed of 105 km/h with a maximum cruising range of 600 km. The LM14 carries at total of 11 military personnel including driver, commander, gunner and eight troops. It has a gross vehicle weight of 16,000 kg. At AAD 2016, the vehicle was fitted with a small turret armed with two grenade launcher but the turret can be armed with machine gun up to 12.7mm caliber. In addition to armoured personnel carrier configuration, the LM14 is also offered in armoured ambulance and command and control configurations. |
