The Pakistani private Company car-manufacturer Metal Engineering Works (MEW) in collaboration with the Spanish Company URO Vehículos Especiales S.A. (UROVESA) presents the URO VAMTAC (Vehículo de Alta Movilidad Táctico, "High Mobility Tactical Vehicle") a four-wheel drive multirole military vehicle in live demonstration at IDEAS 2016, the International Defense Exhibition in Karachi, Pakistan.

The URO VAMTAC is a multirole light tactical vehicle which can be used for a wide range of missions for military and security forces. Granted, the URO VAMTAC can be configured as anti-tank guided missiles carrier, with radars and very short-range air defence equipment and as command and control vehicle.
The URO VAMTAC comes with four-wheel drive capability, with 100% differentials locking in transfer case, front & rear axle, operated from dashboard by electro-pneumatic switches for a great off road performance. The S3 variant is showed at IDEAS 2016 in live demonstration showing their ability to be used in hot weather conditions and cross different types of obstacles. The URO VAMTAC is motorized with Steyr Motors' M16-"Monoblock" engine (6-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine, from 135 to 200kW) coupled to a five speed automatic transmission. It can run at a maximum road speed of 135 km/h with a maximum cruising range of 600 km. It can negotiate 70% gradients and 50% side slopes. The vehicle has a length of 4.845 m, width of 2.175 m and a height of 1.9 m. The curb weight of the vehicle ranges from 3,000 kilograms to 3,500 kilograms, and has a payload capacity ranging from 1,500 kg to 2,000 kg. The URO VAMTAC is used by the armed or police forces of Saudia Arabia, Dominican Republic, Malaysia, Morocco, Romania and Venezuela. It was deployed by the Spanish Amy in Afghanistan, Congo and Lebanon. |

Recently, the URO VAMTAC ST5 vehicle has been adopted by the Singapore Armed Forces.
The standard version of the URO VAMTAC is not protected but according to customers requirements, the vehicle can be manufactured with an armoured cabin. The armoured variant of VAMTAC offers ballistic protection. It features a strengthened body which is completely made of ballistic materials for increased protection. It is also equipped with roof-suspended seats and reinforced suspension. |
