The Russian Defense Company Strela, a subdivision of Almaz-Antey unveils its new 4x4 reconnaissance armoured vehicle at KADEX 2016, the Kazakhstan Defense Exhibition. This vehicle is based on the KamAZ-53949 chassis which is a wheeled combat vehicle in the category of MRAP (Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicle) vehicle designed and manufactured by Kamaz.

The Strela reconnaissance vehicle is equipped with a full range of observation equipment including radar and drones. This mine protected vehicle can carried a total of 4 military personnel. The vehicle can be used for search, detection and identification of enemy targets on the move or in static position during day and night. The rear part of the roof is fitted with a telescopic mast which is equipped with daylight high resolution TC camera, a laser rangefinder, a thermal imaging device and a detection radar. The radar is able to detect people at a maximum distance of 6 km and combat vehicle at a maximum distance of 10 km. Inside of the vehicle there is computer and color LCD for commander and observer that can display moving target data. The observation systems of the vehicle is coupled to a Russian-made drone T28 which has a flight endurance of 60 min at a maximum distance of 10 km and a flight altitude of 500 m. The vehicle is motorized by a Cummins 6ISBe 350 turbocharged diesel engine, developing 350 hp. It can run at a maximum speed of 90 km/h with a maximum cruising range. A remotely operated weapon station is mounted on the roof of the vehicle which is armed with a 12.7mm machine gun. The turret is capable of 360-degree rotation and -5 to +75-degree elevation and is gyro-stabilized. |
