"The Tor-M2U surface-to-air missile [SAM] system is fit for operational service judging by the results it has produced at a testing ground of the Defense Ministry. The system has been shipped to its home station," he said.
The TOR-M2U is an upgraded version of the TOR-M2 short-range air defense missile system. The TOR-M2U is equipped with a new battlefield missile system with better algorithms to recognize, classify and prioritize targets and able to engage four threats simultaneously. The Tor-M2U is a new-generation tactical SAM system from Kupol in the city of Izhevsk. It features several unique characteristics. The SAM system is capable of acquiring over 40 targets simultaneously, prioritize them and engage four of them at the same time. The Tor-M2U can repel mass attacks of advanced enemy aircraft. The characteristics of its missiles make them very effective against highly agile small-size threats. The Tor-M2U can operate as part of an AD force or independently. The TOR-M2U can destroy aerial moving enemy targets within the range of 12 km and at altitudes from 10 m to 1,000 m. |
