"The Rubtsovsk Affiliate [in the Altai Territory in south Siberia] has fulfilled the 2016 state defense order ahead of schedule. The enterprise has carried out large-scale work to produce and upgrade special hardware for Russia’s Defense Ministry," the press office said.
"Under a three-year contract, the enterprise has produced eight PRP-4A Argus reconnaissance vehicles and six sets of spare parts for them. The enterprise has also overhauled 23 BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicles," the press office added. According to the press office, the military hardware has been accepted, dispatched and delivered to the customer on time. The PRP-4A Argus reconnaissance vehicle is designed to reconnoitre single/group, fixed/mobile and sheltered/unsheltered tank-type targets for Army artillery reconnaissance units. The vehicle is based on the chassis of the BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicle. It features high maneuverability, speed, cross-country capability and river-crossing capacity. The Rubtsovsk Affiliate demonstrated the upgraded PRP-4A Argus reconnaissance vehicle at the Russia Arms Expo 2013 (RAE 2013) exhibition in Nizhny Tagil in the Urals. The PRP-4A is based on the BMP-1 Soviet-made armoured infantry fighting vehicle, but the original turret is removed and replaced by a turret fitted radar IL120-1 mounted at the rear, a 1D14-1 periscopic laser rangefinder mounted on the left of the turret and a 1D14-1 periscopic laser rangefinder. |
