Russian defense contractor Uralvagonzavod (UVZ) will start delivery of its fighting module equipped with a 57-mm automatic gun in the first quarter of 2017, Director General Oleg Siyenko has told TASS in an interview on Sept. 12, 2016.

"We have got promising customers waiting for the tests to be passed. I guess the tests will be completed in 2017. I can tell you that we have got rather firm orders for such modules to be exported as soon as the late first quarter of 2017," Siyenko said.
According to him, the module features a high rate of fire - over 80 rounds per minute. "It can handle not only low- and medium-altitude targets. The gun punches through thick armor and causes heavy damage. We openly say we are developing the module for export, but it is in demand with the Russian Armed Forces as well," the director general added. In September of last year, Siyenko said Uralvagonzavod would supply the United Arab Emirates with several hundred AU-220M fighting modules to equip tracked and wheeled chasses. The AU-220M is an upgraded variant of the A-220 naval gun with the 57-mm gun as its main armament. Uralvagonzavod’s deputy director general, Vyacheslav Khalitov, has said the company would derive from the T-72 and t-90 tanks combat vehicles fitted with the Baikal fighting module packing the 57-mm gun. Siyenko had previously stressed that the 57-mm gun was planned for being tailored to future ground-based fighting vehicles. |
